I'm really excited about posting this today because in the past, I've tried EVERYTHING to cut down on my stress and anxiety.
I've tried:
- ALL the vitamins
- ALL the techniques
I want to have control of my thoughts, I don't want my thoughts to control me! Actually, I NEED my thoughts to be organised...because I had a messy brain, and a messy life. I literally had THE most messy mind of anyone I knew...and I was only a teen! Something was not right.
When I went Raw...I suddenly felt "concious". I felt as though I knew the answer. But it may shcok you that Raw Foods alone in NOT the answer!
I felt concious of my body. I felt I knew how my body wanted to live. It did not want to live at such a hectic pace...at thye mercy of my brain. This hectic pace caused me to think uncontrollably about what I had to do next - what chore I had to accomplish.
Sure, with Raw Foods, my mind was sharper which allowed me to complete tasks faster... but I wasn't happy in the moment.
Now that I had the understanding that my body wants to be in a state of physical happiness (ie: No colds, No excess fat)...I thought to myself...why can't I apply that to my mental state?
That's when it dawned on me...I've got to be slower!
Now I know, even the thought of "being slower" makes some of you *cringe*.
But trust me, your body and mind want it. It's only our multi-tasking, fast paced Western society that's engrained the idea of "get things done as quickly as you can in order to be happy and relax later."
See to me, that made absolutely no sense. Time is always present. Why can't you be happy while you are doing things. I don't want to reserve it for later. And even worse, I don't want to be happy and relaxed now, in order to be miserable and enslaved later.
This simple "thought" literally changed me forever.
It was not until I applied these simple techniques - which we all have at our disposal *this instant!* - that I felt true peace of mind:
1. Live in the Moment:
You may have heard it a million times and not had a clue what to do with it. That's the problem...most "helpers" give you goals, without giving you constructive tools to accomplish those goals! Well, you're in the right place! Here's what you do:
Slow down. Unzip your coat slower, scratch that itch on your nose in a couple seconds... get creative! Do most things as though you have "all the time in the world" and you have control over your mind. When you have control of your mind, it can feel anything you want! Insert happy words into your conciousness, take a deep breath in before you talk to someone, and you'll feel your confidence soar!Note: Obviously, don't quit completely slack off at your job. But if you really aren't happy in your job, plan a way to get out. Don't just do something without purpose. That can be disastrous.
2. Shrink Yourself
I personally think of my current position in the Universe. Sound kind of deep? Well it is, and I LOVE it. It's amazing to think that we are riding this big hunk of minerals and floating in an "atmosphere" filled with the vital gases we need to survive. It makes me feel priveledged and humbled. It makes me feel so small in the universe, yet so priveledged because these very molecules that make up my body could have been dispersed throughout the cosmos. I could be on some other planet...but I'm NOT! I'm living on this beautiful planet with gravity, air, water. Everything I need PLUS some more (internet, thousands of people to meet, things to learn which I normally wouldn't learn, and food at my fingertips)!
3. Do your own thing.
Question societal "norms". Why do you have to walk in a straight line, staring straight ahead? Walk backwards (carefully), walk sideways, crouch, skip, jump! No one can tell you what to do! You're not hurting anyone...in fact, you may give them a chuckle and make their day.
Trick your mind a little. When you drop a pencil and go to pick it up, stop for a second and question whether you want to actually pick it up. In fact, just walk away. This takes some practice, but it will really increase you critical thinking skills because you can't acquire these skills simply by learning about them. You have to do them! By the way, pick up the pencil eventually..
Summary:
The simple Act of Doing things Slower, thinking outside your mind, and following the unbeaten path gives you a wordly, whole feeling deep inside your sub-conscious and consious mind. You won't feel swamped, instead, you'll feel a radiating confidence that you feel you can deal with ANY situation that arises. Your boss gives you a deadline...no problem, you'll be done early. You'll actually enjoy doing it because you can put these principles to task. You can be happy while your working!
